Family Painting: line from Banana Pancakes by Jack Johnson
We
decided to do a family finger painting and then decided to apply a quote on
top.
After
much debate we decided to go this line from Banana Pancakes by Jack Johnson:
We got everything we need right here / And everything we need is enough
We got everything we need right here / And everything we need is enough
We all finger painted splashes of color on to the thick paper and then
let it dried.
The plan was to place to vinyl letters on to the painting and then paint
a black layer over it; however the vinyl letters did not stick to the painting.
So then I debated on free handing
it or designing the words, projecting them on to the paper, and then painting
it.
I opted for free handing it with pencil. In hind sight this was a mistake
– at this scale my hand lettering is not so grand. In addition the pencil is
obvious.
I did lay it out on the computer first for a guide. I have a horrible habit of drawing much larger
than the paper allows for so I had to adjust and it did not work so well.
After I penciled out the letters, I painted black around them and then
taped off the edges. Then we all painted in the rest of black. And ta da – a family
quote painting.
While it would have looked better of I would have projected the letters,
it was done as a family which gives so much more meaning to the quote.

Easter Seating Cards
Here are the Easter Seating Cards I made in Illustrator for our family dinner.
They were super easy to make. I created an egg shape in Adobe Illustrator and then filled them with pattern swatches and added a drop shadow and the names. I used Sofia for the font. I got the different swatches online:
Paisley Seamless Pattern @ http://jilbert.deviantart.com/art/Paisley-Seamless-Pattern-124519576
50 Free Herringbone Illustrator Pattern Swatches @ http://wegraphics.net/downloads/50-free-herringbone-illustrator-pattern-swatches/
Patternlicious Polka Dots Pattern @ http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/exchange/index.cfm?event=extensionDetail&extid=1758026
William Morris Thistle Weave Pattern @ http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/exchange/index.cfm?event=extensionDetail&loc=en_us&extid=1045560
Now I just have to wait for a fabulous dinner!
